IMPORTANCE OF DRINKING WATER

The importance of drinking water for pets is that it balances the pet's diet. Therefore, drinking water for pets is one of the important things that you should pay attention to

A balanced diet is not the only part necessary to keep your pet healthy. But also good water is a very important part of a pet's daily requirements and overall nutrition.

Water is the main component of the living cells in the body, and without water the pet's body will not be able to function properly and your pet will be harmed.

In order for your pet to get enough water daily, you must provide water for your pet with a healthy and balanced diet (which also provides some moisture especially in the summer).

What is the benefit of water for pets?

  • The purpose of water is too transport important nutrients in and out of the body's cells. It aids in the digestion of food and helps the body absorb nutrients.

  • Water also cools and hydrates the body and maintains a normal body temperature.

  • Water helps ease the movement of joints and also helps move the spinal cord and other internal tissues with moisture and removes waste from the body through urination and bowel movements.

What is the reason why pets drink a lot of water?

Basically every important function of the body requires water. Without water, your pet can quickly get sick and become dehydrated.

The organs will eventually become damaged due to the constant lack of water and if the deficiency continues for a long time the organs (like kidneys, liver, etc.) will start to break down and the pet will die soon after.

Therefore, the reason for the frequent drinking of water for pets is due to many health reasons that help them to stay alive and in good health.

The importance of drinking water for pets: Provide adequate water for pets.

To ensure that your pet always gets enough water to keep him healthy, you must provide clean, accessible water for the pet.

Keep the pet's bowl full at all times and always refill it with fresh, clean water daily.

There are many factors that can affect how much your pet will drink, depending on the temperature of the environment and the amount of movement the pet does during the day.

It may be necessary to provide more water for the pet and this is due to the loss of water due to excessive panting and playing.

As mentioned earlier, your pet's food contains a small amount of water, especially if it is wet. Pets fed a canned diet get a little more water

As canned food contains 70-80% water, these pets can get less water than pets fed a dry diet daily.

You must provide enough water for pets at all times

Signs of dehydration in pets

Therefore, the importance of drinking water for pets helps prevent your pet from becoming dehydrated. But how do you know that?

In general, your pet will drink enough water daily to stay healthy.

But there are a few cases in which dehydration can occur, such as pets with diseases such as kidney disease, metabolic disorders (eg diabetes), cancer and pregnant/lactating animals are at risk of dehydration more easily.

How do you know if your pet is dehydrated?

  • To test the pet for dehydration, pick up a fold of loose skin over the top of the pet's shoulder and gently pull it up and let go.

  • Watch the skin as it returns to its place. Under normal circumstances, the skin should quickly return to its place without any hesitation. However, in the case of dryness, the skin will slowly return or may remain in place for a period of time before returning to its place.

  • Another place to look for dehydration is in the pet's mouth. If the gums appear dry, sticky, or pale, this is an indication of disease and dehydration.

  • You will notice dry, flaky clumps in the eyes and you will notice that your pet has a dry nose and mouth, which are signs of dehydration for affected pets.

  • If you are concerned that your pet is not getting enough water, speak to your veterinarian for advice to keep your pet healthy. Maintaining proper water is very important to keeping your pet healthy and cannot be ignored.
